Melbourne Victory manager Ange Postecoglou has said that he is still confident that he can achieve the success many expect from him after he began his regime as the Melbourne Victory manager.

The former Brisbane Roar manager made this switch to Melbourne Victory in this summer hoping to achieve the same kind of success as with former club. However, he began his tenure with a defeat at the hands of Greek club Olympiacos in a friendly match between the two clubs. The 4-1 defeat was particularly damaging for the club, who are looking at the possibility of winning the A-league title this season.

However, Ange Postecoglou has said that he is confident of achieving his goals with Melbourne Victory after admitting that it was a very good Olympiacos side. Greece have qualified for the Euro 2012 and will be looking to repeat their heroics at the Euro 2004.

The Olympiacos side that took on Melbourne Victory was one of the best as it had a number of Greece players, who regarded this game as a vital part of their preparation for the Euro 2012. Melbourne Victory, meanwhile, were coming into the match considering it as a friendly according to Ange Postecoglou.

“They are a good side and have just come off the end of their season and we had a really inexperienced team out there, especially in defence. ‘But I thought that our intent was good. At no stage were we lumping it long. The quality of the opposition means that if you make a mistake you are punished and the players learnt that tonight. They also learnt that if you play with intent you can do things,” said Ange Postecoglou after the 4-1 defeat.

Melbourne Victory will be hoping to get a good start to the season in order to challenge for the title, and have a friendly with world famous football club Barcelona lined up.
