Melbourne Victory are keen to extend their trophy Cabinet
Melbourne Victory are keen to extend their trophy Cabinet according to manager Kevin Muscat who says that the team will not be resting on their laurels for the upcoming match against Adelaide United.
This FFA cup quarter-final match will see the two teams going head-to-head in a bid to compete in the semifinals. Melbourne Victory are amongst the eight teams still left in the competition and they are seen as one of the favourites to win the title. The desire to win the title is much greater after having suffered an exit at a similar stage last season.
The round of 16 provided a huge scare for Melbourne Victory after they could only manage a narrow 3-2 victory over Rockdale City Suns. During the previous rounds, though, they have been fairly comfortable and this was demonstrated by the 6-0 thrashing of Balmain Tigers in the round of 32. Dylan Murnane has been one of the star players during pre-season and he is likely to get the nod against Adelaide United. This will be a major opportunity for him to impress and make himself a permanent fixture in the Melbourne Victory team. Despite already having played several matches in this year’s competition, the game against Adelaide will be the first on home soil for Melbourne.
“Right throughout the competition, make no mistake, everyone wants to win. The teams that are out will probably say they were concentrating on the league, but I don’t buy in to that. It’s a competition and we’re two games away from playing in a final, so, yeah, we are taking this seriously – very seriously. We’ve prepared well coming in to it and then after this game we’ll turn our attentions to the first game of the season and the Adelaide Oval,” said the manager ahead of the game.
