ADELAIDE CAN DO IT
Adelaide United have an outside chance of finishing in the top two according to the interim manager, Mike Valkanis. Adelaide managed a 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets during the weekend. This result prompted the manager to say that the club can hope to finish in this lofty position. As a result of the draw, Adelaide are just five points off the second place in the table. It is currently occupied by Central Coast Mariners. However, this would require the second placed team to drop points when they take on Brisbane Roars on Sunday.
Adelaide United will be taking on the Central Coast Mariners next weekend. They need a favourable result on Sunday if they are to finish in the top two positions. Still, it will need Adelaide to beat the Mariners in the match that will take place in the last week of March. Adelaide came into the match on the back of a poor run of form, which has seen them win just two matches in the last five encounters. It looked like they were on the verge of a defeat after Newcastle managed to open the scoring in the 44th minute through Bridges.
However, it did not take long for Adelaide to equalise the match after Carrusca’s goal in the 49th minute gave them hope that they can win the match.
“It’s one of those moments when I’m glad I’m not a linesman or referee. Look we were celebrating we thought we won the game. In the end and just looking at the replay I can’t see where the offside and how it was offside but we can’t do anything about that now that’s been done. You go into our dressing room right now and the boys looked like they’ve lost the grand final,” said the Adelaide manager.
