Del Piero Committed to Sky Blues Cause
Sydney FC star, Alessandro Del Piero, has once again dismissed rumours he plans to leave the A-League club in the January transfer window.
The 39-year-old’s future with the Sky Blues has been under the media spotlight of late, with a number of clubs back in Europe believed to be interested in acquiring the veteran Italian’s services next month.
Del Piero has missed two of Sydney’s nine games in the campaign so far but has insisted any frustration he has at the club at the moment is to do with his injury set-backs and not to do with his overall future happiness at the Sydney Football Stadium.
With the speculation on Premier League betting websites growing ahead of the January window, the former Juventus star has moved quickly to quash the talk, as he looks to get back to A-League action following his recent hamstring injury.
He said: “If I’m sad because I have an injury it’s because I have an injury, not because I’m not happy. For me is only rumours.
“I’m focused about this season with Sydney and I don’t have other thoughts about other teams at the moment.”
Manager, Frank Farina, will be pleased to hear Del Piero’s commitment to the club, with the experienced playmaker proving to be a key player since moving to Sydney back in September 2012.
Having missed out on the final series last season, with Del Piero notching up 14 goals in the campaign, the former Italy international will be hoping his side can go further this term and secure the A-League for the first time since 2010. Fans betting on soccer can currently find them at 9/1 for the title.
